The long-awaited decision of the European Commission regarding the trade preferential status of Cambodia was finally revealed. The Press Release dated on 12th February indicates that Cambodia will lose some parts of the trade privilege, particularly on garment and footwear products, and all travel goods and sugar. Calculated by the Commission, Cambodia is expected to lose some USD1.1 billion or 20 percent of annual total exports to the EU market as a repercussion of this decision. However, that may not be the whole story. Such decision will surely leave the Kingdom and the people high and dry.<\/p>\n
