Emerging Technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Since the first industrial revolution, technological advances and innovations have always emerged to drive progress in every aspect of society. Many technological breakthroughs—including the use of mainframes, the internet and information and communication technologies—have shaped the course of digital era and reinforced globalization since the 1960s. Similarly, as the Industry 4.0 is underway, both new and existing technologies also come into existence and continue to develop to reach their full potentials.
This aide-mémoire selectively introduces a number of emerging technologies of the fourth industrial revolution, such as smart factories, robotics, 3D printing, autonomous vehicles (AVs), virtual reality and augmented reality, and cloud computing.
